Holy Thursday

God Lives and Loves : Church of St Francis of Assisi - My God My ALL

Take and Eat, This is My Body
Take and Drink, This is My Blood

My First Unknown Relationship

This is the first cross which I had first seen with my eyes(which I had mentioned in my previous post: Palm Sunday), at my childhood church, Church of St Francis of Assisi.

Take and Eat, This is My Body
Take and Drink, This is My Blood

And that was what I learned in Catechism class before my Holy Communion, the occasion where I was dressed in white, and received the ’round-shaped’ piece of bread.

This is The Last Supper artwork at my sister’s house, my first encounter with the Last Supper. My ‘last encounter’ with the Last Supper was at Church of St Anthony of Padua.

Never had I know the significance of the Last Supper, and the purpose of going to church then.

The Last Supper
Now when the even was come, he sat down with the twelve. And as they did eat, he said, Verily I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me. And they were exceeding sorrowful, and began every one of them to say unto him, Lord, is it I? And he answered and said, He that dippeth his hand with me in the dish, the same shall betray me. –Matthew 26

Holy Thursday: After washing the feet of the disciples, Jesus celebrated Passover, instituting the Sacrament of Holy Communion.
As Jesus and His Apostles were eating the Last Supper, Jesus took some bread, and when He had blessed it, He broke it and gave it to them. “Take it and eat,” he said; “this is My Body.”

Then He took a cup, and when He had thanked His Heavenly Father He gave it to them. “Drink all of you from this,” He said, ” for this is My Blood, the Blood of the new Covenant, which is to be poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this as a remembrance of Me.”

The Meaning of This Feast
For the first time, Jesus said the words which He changed bread and wine into His own Body and Blood. He gave His Apostles the power to do what He did, so that after them the priests would offer the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass till the end of time, and give us His Body and Blood in Holy Communion as Food for our Soul.

Jesus gave us the Holy Eucharist and the Holy Priesthood on Holy Thursday night. It was the beginning of His Passion. This is the feast of the institution of the Holy Eucharist.
