Sacraments of healing and Reconciliation

The Sacrament of Reconciliation /Penance restores a sinner’s union with the wider faith – community, a union broken by serious sin. The Sacrament of Penance/ Reconciliation, formerly known as Confession, is for those whose relationship to the church has been strained or even severed by sin. In almost every life, obstacles arise.

Catholics believe such obstacles keep them from participating fully in the Christian life they have entered. Everyone, even members of the Church, is prone to sin and vulnerable to illness, physical weakness, and finally death.

Two sacraments are celebrated by the church as signs and instruments of God’s and of Christ’s encompassing power to heal and forgive. The Sacrament of Anointing of the sick is for those whose bond with the church has been weakened by illness or other physical problems. This sacrament can be given to a group as well as an individual.
