Sacraments are signs that give grace. The sacraments are like seven rivers of grace flowing from the Saviour on the cross, through the Catholic Church. Jesus is our Good Shepherd and we are His sheep. He gives us God's life and help through the grace we receive.
Jesus died on the Cross to win grace for our souls. The Holy Spirit makes us holy by giving us His grace, which we cannot see. The signs of the Seven Sacraments let us know that God's grace is being given to our soul when we receive the Sacrament. We can see the signs with our eyes, but it is only through our faith that we know God's grace is given to us. We believe this on the word of Jesus Himself Who gave us the Sacraments so that we might share God's own life through grace.
