Truth
Good and Evil
Evil exists to glorify the good. Evil is negative good. It is a relative term. Evil can be transmuted into good. What is evil to one at one time, becomes good at another time to somebody else. ~ Mencius
Right or Wrong
The superior man understands what is right; the inferior man understands what will sell. ~ Confucius
Pain, Suffering, Pleasure
The end of pain lies not in pleasure. When you realise that you are beyond both pain and pleasure are aloof and unassailable, then the pursuit of happiness ceases and the resultant sorrow too. For pain aims at pleasure and pleasure ends in pain, relentlessly. ~ Nisargadatta Maharaj
Every pleasure, physical or mental, needs an instrument. Both the physical and mental instruments are materials, they get tired and worn out. The pleasure they yield is necessarily limited in intensity and duration. Pain is the background of all your pleasures. You want them because you suffer. On the other hand, the very search for pleasure is the cause of pain. It is a vicious circle. ~ Nisargadatta Maharaj
Inside or Outside
What one looks for outside turns out to be present inside, but only to be discovered after a long detour of seeking externally, in all the wrong places… in a process of gradual reversal, the return of what moves forward in the shape of a circle, in which the end meets the initial point of departure. ~ Zhang Longxi
Truth
They who know the truth are not equal to those who love it. They who love it are not equal to those who delight in it.
When the mind discriminates, there is manifoldness of things; when it does not, it looks into the true state of things. ~ Buddhist Proverb
Anything truly revolutionary is created by a few who see what is true and are willing to live according to that truth; but to discover what is true demands freedom from tradition, which means freedom from all fears. ~ Krishnamurti
Silence is the true upadesa(teaching). It is the perfect upadesa. It is suited only for the most advanced seeker. The others are unable to draw full inspiration from it. Therefore they require words to explain the truth. But truth is beyond words. It does not admit of explanation. All that is possible to do is to indicate it. ~ Sri Ramana Maharshi
